Philip joined the prison service in 2006 as part of the graduate Intensive Development Scheme where he worked as a prison officer at HMP Preston, before becoming a senior officer at HMP Garth. Philip left the scheme when he passed his operational governor assessments in 2009 and has remained an operational Governor for the past 10 years completing various roles such as Head of Residence and Head of Security at a number of prisons. Philip joined the Security, Order and Counter Terrorism (SOCT) team in headquarters in November 2017 and has been working closely with commercial colleagues to better equip the prisons with security technology ever since in his role as The Head of Physical Security Countermeasures Team.
