Det Sgt Kirsty Rigg
Kirsty is a highly experienced Counter Terrorism Detective, currently seconded from Cumbria Constabulary, to the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO), where she leads the Counter Weapons Threat Team. In 2009, Kirsty specialised in Counter Terrorism policing and has a broad range of skills including investigations, intelligence, maritime and aviation. She is also a CBRN specialist (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological & Nuclear) and Counter Terrorism Forensic Manager. She has worked on a significant number of Counter Terrorism attacks not only within the UK but internationally, including the Manchester Arena attack and the Salisbury poisonings.
The Counter Weapons Threat Team are a unique capability and consists of subject matter experts who provide advice and guidance around the threats from stand-off weapons within the UK Civil Aviation Space and to events and locations. The team use highly specialist threat visualisation software, in order to produce bespoke vulnerability assessments which are used to mitigate threat and risk from a protective security perspective. The Counter Weapons Threat team work closely with partners in the military and defence, in particular with the RAF, within the Protect and Prepare Pillars of the UK CONTEST strategy. The Counter Weapons Threat team also deploy internationally part of the Department for Transport’s capability building programme.
