Securing the in-flight catering industry

The in-flight catering industry is a large and complex global operation responsible for serving billions of passengers every year.

Military precision is required to ensure that everything is ready for loading within tightly defined timeframes so that flights can depart on schedule.

A major concern for in-flight catering and logistics providers is not only to ensure the safety and quality of all products delivered on board, but also to protect against any potential security risks.

Traditionally, plastic security seals have been used to secure the special high-lift trucks that allow trolleys to be rolled on and off aircraft quickly and efficiently. However, there have been increasing health and safety concerns about plastic fragments from discarded seals left on the ground at the aircraft loading site.

These relate to potential slipping hazards, as well as the potential risk of plastic fragments being sucked into aircraft engines.

The solution is to use reusable electronic seals, which would eliminate the need for plastic seals altogether and provide a more sophisticated and secure solution that would deter potential attackers.

Since 2000, Unisto has been delivering innovative electronic seal solutions that significantly reduce administrative man-hours compared to using plastic seals.

They also help to speed up the overall logistics process, reducing the incidence of departure delays and minimising the risk of fines imposed by airlines for late deliveries.

Today, not only at London Heathrow, but at airports around the world, Unisto electronic seals can be found on the majority of vehicles that regularly travel airside.

We continue to grow our business with our Unisto e-Guard Data Trans and Spire & myU.
