At Highway Care, we’re committed to giving back to the communities we work within and, as part of our Social Value strategy this year, we are giving each employee the opportunity to spend a paid working day volunteering at local community projects or charities.
We were delighted when our Head of Business Development, Ryan Croft, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Nick Carey and Commercial Assistant, Annie Boyd chose to spend their allocated day helping out at the Lighthouse Charity in Woking along with colleagues from the Balfour Beatty M25 J10 project.
The Lighthouse Charity helps people in need of food, clothing, mental health support and many other challenges including support for refugees. They host a range of creative projects designed to support, encourage and empower these individuals and run a coffee shop staffed mostly by volunteers. The charity is largely funded by donations and relies heavily on the kindness of volunteers just like Ryan, Nick and Annie.
The team rolled up their sleeves for a day spent helping with some maintenance work on the charity’s garden terrace. They helped clear and de-weed the area, as well as planting new flowers so that coming into the summer months, the charity would have a vibrant outdoor space to continue their community projects. The team had a fantastic time and were able to find out more about the great work that The Lighthouse Charity is doing.
We’re proud that we can enable our team to spend a day giving back to the community in such a positive way. Look out for more news on our volunteering activities soon!
