Introduced in the Victims and Prisoners Bill (VPB) that was presented to Parliament on 1st March 2023. The IPA will act for victims and bereaved families directly affected by future large-scale public disasters and dates back to a government commitment made in 2016 following the new Inquests into the 1989 Hillsborough Stadium disaster. The role is subject to detailed policy development running alongside the progress of the VPB.
