Security Officers are sometimes confronted with ethical dilemmas. What happens when an informal or formal code of ethics, or the public good, conflicts with assignment instructions, duties, priorities and expectations? Here the Security Officer is forced to make decisions that require certain issues to be prioritized as more important and compelling than others. How do officers decide what to do? What are the consequences for both action and inaction? Who bears the liabilities for the actions? These are just some of ethical questions that the Security Officer may have to answer in a split second.
